Javascript not working in IE?

Perhaps this stupid thing is the reason

I have no idea what the difference is between:

type="application/javascript"

and

type="text/javascript">

but apparently if you have "application" in there, IE takes the day off and nothing friggin works. Lucky for me I figured this out quick, but it could have easily taken years. When will IE die?
